Within eight months, MathCo’s five-person support team grew into a 15-member engineering team trusted to actively develop applications and provide dedicated engineering support across a leading North American grocery retailer’s Palantir Foundry ecosystem. What began as a pilot engagement expanded from three to seven active use cases, reflecting a steady increase in responsibility across the platform.

The Journey from Pilot to Platform Owner

MathCo’s engagement began with a focused pilot to support and enhance existing Palantir Foundry applications. The initial mandate centered on application maintenance, including issue resolution, stabilization, monitoring, performance improvements, and incremental enhancements. Rather than treating the engagement as a support function, the team approached it as an opportunity to generate valuable business impact while building deep platform expertise and delivering consistent operational excellence.  

As confidence in the team’s delivery grew, so did its responsibilities. The engagement soon expanded from application support into active solution development, with MathCo FDEs (Forward Deployed Engineers) becoming embedded within the retailer’s Foundry ecosystem. As new business functions and applications came under the team’s purview, MathCo steadily expanded its engineering bench to support the growing platform landscape. 

Today, the team drives development across seven business-critical use cases spanning sourcing, pricing, inventory management, promotion planning, and supply chain operations. More importantly, the expertise built through this engagement has scaled beyond a single project. With more than 50 FDEs now trained on Palantir Foundry, MathCo has transformed its early experience into an organizational capability that can be replicated across enterprise Foundry implementations.

As MathCo’s role expanded, maintaining consistency across an increasingly complex Palantir Foundry ecosystem became just as important as delivering new capabilities. Regardless of the application or business function, the team’s approach remained consistent: stabilize existing applications, build new capabilities, and continuously optimize business workflows through AI-driven innovation. 

Engineering Smarter Commercial Decisions 

Revenue Growth Management 

Revenue growth management demands a deep understanding of both commercial strategy and the operational workflows that support it. Within the retailer’s Palantir Foundry ecosystem, MathCo improved platform reliability for the enterprise pricing governance application through stabilization, performance optimization, and production issue resolution, enabling smoother day-to-day pricing operations. The team also contributed to applications that enabled more informed pricing and promotion decisions, working closely with business stakeholders to translate complex commercial requirements into scalable platform capabilities. This included an active role in developing new capabilities, enhancing existing workflows, and partnering closely with Palantir FDEs and business teams through user acceptance testing to ensure successful, continuous releases.

Reimagining Sourcing Through Intelligent Workflows

Sourcing and Vendor Cost Management

The Produce Sourcing operations presented an opportunity to move beyond application support and rethink how critical business processes could be executed. Supporting one of the most business-critical and operationally intensive platforms, MathCo improved platform reliability by redesigning data pipelines, optimizing application performance, and implementing proactive health monitoring. These improvements resolved long-standing data quality and latency issues, reducing screen load times by 50% and resulting in a 90% reduction in reported bugs. Building on this foundation, the team shaped the AI transformation roadmap, modeled the business context within the Ontology, and leveraged AIP to build agentic AI workflows that provided real-time commodity intelligence, vendor insights, automated sourcing plans, and negotiation recommendations. The result was a streamlined sourcing process, faster decision-making, and improved vendor cost optimization through AI-powered decision support

Building Operational Intelligence at Scale 

Supply Chain Visibility & Merchandizing  

Inventory, merchandizing, and supply chain decisions are deeply interconnected, requiring enterprise-wide visibility to support faster, more informed execution. MathCo’s work here began with stabilizing a core application within the retailer’s supply chain ecosystem, spanning six connected tools and over 200 users, before progressing to end-to-end solution design and workflow optimization across the broader ecosystem. From there, the team’s focus shifted from individual applications to the intelligence layer connecting them, strengthening supply chain visibility, inventory accuracy, and merchandising insight so business teams could act on one reliable view instead of fragmented ones. Predictive monitoring capabilities were introduced along the way to improve system reliability and proactively flag potential issues before they affected operations. Among the tools the team built was a purpose-built reporting application for leadership, giving warehouse teams direct visibility into shrink and its underlying causes. By combining platform engineering with a strong understanding of retail operations, MathCo helped business teams move faster on both day-to-day execution and long-term operational planning. 

The Discipline Behind the Scale 

Supporting a growing portfolio of business-critical applications required more than technical expertise. It demanded an engineering discipline that ensured every application could evolve without compromising platform stability, performance, or user experience. Across the retailer’s Palantir Foundry ecosystem, MathCo established structured delivery practices spanning the entire product lifecycle, from data discovery to business requirements gathering, design to development and testing to documentation, data quality monitoring, and hyper care. Together, these practices created a consistent operating model that enabled multiple applications to scale while maintaining the reliability and governance expected of an enterprise platform. 

This disciplined approach also enabled the team to create value beyond the defined scope of work. Leveraging a deep understanding of Foundry’s architecture, MathCo proactively identified opportunities to optimize data pipelines and compute resource utilization, significantly improving platform efficiency. These optimizations delivered approximately $365K CAD in cumulative savings over four months, representing an estimated $1.32M CAD in annualized value. The outcome reflected more than cost optimization. It demonstrated the ability to continuously improve platform performance through architectural expertise and proactive engineering. 

As the engagement matured, MathCo’s contribution extended beyond application delivery to strengthening the platform itself. The team established design standards and UI/UX consistency across applications, published a universal design guide to help create a more unified and intuitive user experience while also shaping workload distribution between Snowflake and Palantir Foundry to improve performance and scalability. Across multiple applications, MathCo also identified opportunities for AI-powered workflow optimization, reinforcing its ability to improve platform capabilities while helping business teams unlock greater value from their Foundry investment.
